History of ERBER GROUP

1983

1983On the 1st January 1983 Erich Erber Kommaditgesellschaft opened its door for business from a rented warehouse in Pottenbrunn Austria with 3 staff on the payroll. The company was formed as an unlimited partnership between Erich and Margarete Erber, which at that time was an important guarantee factor for the bank which was otherwise not willing to loan some money to the new start up, aside of all the private savings that went into the company funds.

Prior to this new venture Erich Erber nowadays colloquially called Erich in the entire group, was working as a sales manager to the largest feed additive and vitamin premix distribution company in Austria and parts of Central Europe. Inspired by a good friend and one of the world´s first innovators on probiotics, late Dr. Herbert Egger the newly launched vitamin mineral premix line was called "BIOMIN" by Erich. This was the first in the world to use a natural growth promoter in feed instead of the at this time widely used antibiotic growth promoters.

1985

1985In 1985 the first acquisition chance came along with the possibility to buy a small premix and veterinary drug company called Interpremix in Austria. The vendors of Interpremix, ao Prof. Dr. Halama and Ing. Weninger where about to retire and wanted to sell the company which had a small production facility and an interesting product portfolio. Under the helm of Dr. Halama Interpremix had developed a few interesting feed additives but have not yet been able to market them. One of them was the product called Antitox Plus – which was the first product worldwide able to bind mycotoxins. Now mycotoxins occur naturally worldwide as a by-product from fungi on grains, nuts, grapes and so on... and are toxic to animals and human.

From late 1985 onwards all BIOMIN products where produced in Interpremix as well as the feed additive and vet. product line. Interesting enough through a contact of Dr. Halama the first sales of Antitox Plus went to Taiwan and later to other parts in Asia. The vitamin premix business enjoyed a healthy growth in Austria as well as the veterinary products of Interpremix.

1988

19881988 a research agreement was reached with the Veterinary University in Vienna with Prof. Dr. Leibetseder to further improve the efficacy of Antitox Plus to a wider range of Mycotoxins. As a result in 1992 the second generation mycotoxins deactivation product was launched under the brand Mycofix®. Mycofix® today offers  already in the fourth generation product and the fifth generation is on the way to serve the industry soon.

1994 - 2001

In 1994 it was decided to separate the BIOMIN brand from the Interpremix product line thus allow each brand to be more focused on the customer needs and also to allow a better regulatory control in view of the accession of Austria to the EU in 1995.
1997
In this way the ERBER AG a not listed joint stock was chosen to become the holding for the two lines and any future business that might come to the group. The shares are fully held by the families and are not traded in the market yet the governance follows strictly the legal requirements of the laws and regulations for stock companies. As such as two tiers board is required where he Supervisory Board with external directors needs to be involved in any major decision and the Executive Board with its directors in charge of the day to day business. 1997

BIOMIN now considered an affiliate – division - of ERBER AG enjoyed a strong growth in the years with strong emphasize to internationalize into America and Latin America with a regional office in San Antonio and to Asia with a regional office in Singapore.

1996
In 1999 a further addition to ERBER GROUP came along with the ink under the contracts to take over Romer Labs Missouri in the US. Romer Labs is a major player in the field of feed and food safety where contaminations such as mycotoxins or others can be detected. Romer provides test kits that allow QC labs worldwide to detect undesirable’s substance in feed and food. At that time of the take over Romer Labs was a small 17 head company and has since take over grown to nearly 100 staff with laboratories and R+D in US, EU and Asia. Romer became the second division to ERBER GROUP in this way.

2002 - 2010

In 2002 a new organisational structure was developed and put in place to facilitate the fast growth of the group on a worldwide scale. The so called unique “One Boss Matrix” was installed and has ever since served its purpose very well. According to Malik “The best organisation form is the one that’s producing results”. And measured on the average growth of more than 20% pa. ever since, the above formula together with great managers who fill the posts seems to fit.

2002
BIOMIN and Romer development is based in strong R&D and a high innovation rate as well as a strong presence in all major markets. Starting with affiliates in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Rumania and China, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia and lately Romer UK – just to name few. The direct interaction with the customers has always been a strong point of the organisation. The largest ever investment into a state of the art large fermentation plant in Piraciaba in BR convened in 2007 and went into operation by 2010.

In 2007 a new chapter for the business fields of ERBER GROUP has been opened with the acquisition of Bio-Protect in Konstanz Germany. Bio-Protect founded by Prof. Frehland and Dr. Kunz have been working on biotechnological crop protection for almost a decade. The product a specific yeast strain was first fermented on a contract base by BIOMIN. What started as co-operation lead to incorporation into the ERBER organisation. The products are under EU registration and will be out in the market soon. Bio-Protect now act as the R+D base and Bio-ferm acts as the application and marketing arm are part of Erber Strategic Investments which caters for promising business fields but do not fit to the divisional structures.

2008 was also a strong year in terms of addition of new business since the long term distributor Sanphar BR offered their shares for sale. Sanphar is a trusted and successful distribution partner for BIOMIN in BR and has an own GMP facilities to produce animal health products for BR and Mercosur. Dr. Nunes a previous shareholder remains at the helm of the company for the next years to oversee the strong expansion as well as the newly built high tech production facilities in Campinas BR. Sanphar represents the third division for ERBER GROUP.
