16,000 People settle in the dried-up river bed of Paraguay River. On a garbage dump, they collect recyclable substances which they keep in front of their huts and sell them to dealers. Bañado sur is characterized by garbage and frightful stink.
A few years ago, an initiative was launched there to prepare women for giving birth and to enhance the health of infants.

In the last few decades, the population of the Amazon metropolis Manaus has increased tenfold from 200,000 to 2 million inhabitants.
In the poor district, Gran Vitoria 150 young people were patronised to pass the acceptance test at the University. Aim of this project is a youngcompany, which is jointly trying to improve the situation.
Colombia In Colombia, civil war conditions were prevailing since five decades. Against this violence, people flee from the rural areas into the misery of the cities.

An agricultural school (IMCA) conciliates Campesinos in courses methods of organic agriculture, skills in dealing with communities, as well as basics of political leadership.
Numerous initiatives are accompanied locally, like for example a cooperation of sugar-cane producers. After a massacre by a paramilitary group, many people left the village. Now the focus is on re-building ordered living conditions with repatriates.
